Lacey
Community Church
brings together the
traditions of two denominations,
Church
of the Brethren
Historically, Brethren have made a strong witness to the
Gospel of Jesus Christ to free humankind from the bondage
of violence, hate, and revenge, that all may live in
God's
peace.
Christian
Church (Disciples of Christ)
The Disciples were born out of a passion to fulfill Christ's
prayer
for his followers, that they all might be one.
Historically, Disciples
have given strong leadership to the process of
Church unity.
Lacey
Community Church
We embrace both of these rich traditions and draw
faith and strength from the power of their
combined witness.
. . . Continuing the Work
of Jesus. . .
Though
the Church of the Brethren, as a group, have existed
three hundred
years, and the Disciples of Christ for two hundred years,
neither subscribe to a
formal creed. As members of Lacey Community Church we confess
that Jesus is
the Christ, the Son of the living God and proclaim him Lord and
Savior of the world.
Beyond that
we simply try to do what Jesus did.
Jesus
brought a message of life, love and hope. But He offered much
more than
inspiring words: he understood that people's spiritual needs
also include day-to-day
human ones - food, health, rest, comfort, friendship and
unconditional acceptance.
"I am the way," He told his followers. He showed them
how to trust, how to care
and how to help. Steadily, lovingly, even radically, Jesus
went about saving the world
by serving its people. Because we at Lacey Community Church
believe His message,
we seek to do the same. He saved us by His Grace, we serve
his people not for
salvation but because we love Him and want
to do his will and follow his example.
I tell you
this: anything you did for one of my brothers here,
however humble, you did for me.
There
is a story of a man who was walking down the street. He paused
at a used book store, and in the
window he saw a book with the title, How to Hug. He was taken by
the title and, being somewhat of a
romantic nature, went in to buy the book. To his chagrin, he
discovered it was the seventh volume of an
encyclopedia and covered the subjects "How" to
"Hug".
Everyone knows that
the church is a place where love ought to be manifested, and
many people have
come to church hoping to find a demonstration of love - only to
discover an encyclopedia on theology.
